What initially sounds like a poetic neologism designed to link the vent, in the here and now, to the forever unattainable line separating heaven from earth is revealed by a glance into the dictionary to be something else entirely: »event horizon« is a concept in physics that, to put it simply, describes the boundary of the space of a black hole, from which nothing, not even visual or other information, can emerge because even light itself cannot escape its gravity. The choice of this term as a title for Alicja Kwade's exhibition at the Kestnergesellschaft is a first hint at her thinking in images, at her poetic explorations of reality and the models that explain it – and at how her work enacts the idea of worlds and spaces that lead parallel existences and the events that take place in them.
