This is the first monograph on the Belgian Pop-art artist Evelyne Axell. It illustrates both her art and her life, characterized by the sexual liberation of women in the sixties. After a successful career as an actress, Axell started making collages and oil paintings. In 1966 she began having exhibitions, showing self-portraits, automobiles, and works with an erotic and feminist character. Accompanied an exhibition in the Abteiberg Museum in Mönchengladbach, Germany from July 3rd until October 3rd, 2011. Text in English and German.
AUTHOR: Liesbeth Decan graduated in 2002 as an art historian with a thesis on the works of Evelyne Axell (1935-1972). From 2002 until 2008 she worked for the Department of Art Sciences at Louvain University and since 2003 she has taught the history and theory of photographic images at the Hogeschool Sint-Lukas in Brussels.
