This cap was released on occasion on the exhibition of Xiyao Wang ON THE WAY TO PENGLAI ISLAND at KÖNIG GALERIE. The artist has created a group of large, abstract works that pictorialize an imagined journey to a mythical place, Penglai Island: a recurrent motif in Chinese literature for hundreds of years. Xiyao uses the idea of transit and a destination without concrete form or end, as a starting point for the ten tableaux that hang in the central nave of St. Agnes, each participating in the visual communication of this mythical journey.
The design of the cap is inspired by one of Xiyao’s paintings “On the way to Penglai Island no. 1”. The detailed embroidered lines translate the artist’s gesture onto the fabric. The cap is made of bright, undyed natural cotton, resembling Xiyao’s canvases.
