Rainer Fetting belonged to the group of young artists who caused a sensation around 1980 as the Neue Wilde. Their fierce painting was emotional and direct, very colorful and above all: representational. He became known to a wide audience with his famous portrait of Willy Brandt. His international breakthrough came in 1981 with the exhibition A New Spirit in Painting, curated by Norman Rosenthal and others. Norman Rosenthal was able to be won as author for the catalog, alongside the art philosopher Demosthenes Davvetas and the curators of the exhibition Here are the lemons. This retrospective presents works from around five decades and all genres, providing a comprehensive insight into the multifaceted work of Rainer Fettings, who is now one of the great German artists of the present day.
