Politics with art history The installations of Michael Sailstorfer (born 1979 in Velden/Vils, lives and works in Berlin) are in the tradition of Marcel Duchamp and Joseph Beuys and constantly expand the concept of sculpture. For this, the artist makes use of banal, everyday materials and objects, from honeydew melons to police cars, which he recombines in a playful and entertaining way. His reconstructed sculptures and expansive installations go beyond the realm of visual perception and often even offer the viewer olfactory access. In this way, the artist charges his works with a thoroughly socio-critical statement, at the center of which is the individual with his human - often all-too-human - needs and desires. With the help of numerous illustrations, the publication presents a stringent course through the labyrinth of Sailstorfer's previous sculptural questions from 2000 to 2014. With a foreword by Harald Kunde and Shannon Fitzgerald, an interview by Melanie Bono, essays by Kris Douglas and Susanne Figner, and a material lexicon by Kito Nedo.
