Clédia Fourniau (b. 1992 in Paris, France) lives and works in Paris. She received a BA from Ensaama Olivier de Serres School of Art & Design and a BA and MFA from the Beaux-Arts de Paris.
Her paintings are created using acrylic paint, mica, and resin on primed canvas or textile that forms a mirror-glossy surface producing an introspective dialogue between the reflected image and reality. The act of painting is fundamentally dependent on material and process, rooted in a practice of body in action that is built up in her studio day by day and layer after layer, in an extended and unpredictable temporality. She works on the serial and gestural dimension of abstract painting by questioning representation, and the conditions of creation, perception, and reception of a double image. Clédia Fourniau’s approach roams between a formal, controlled, and accidental practice.
Clédia Fourniau has been chosen as the winner of The Reiffers Art Initiatives Prize for 2024. In 2021 and 2022, she was awarded several prizes such as the Carré sur Seine Prize and the Sisley Beaux-Arts de Paris Prize. She was also the recipient of an Amis des Beaux-Arts de Paris scholarship. She held solo and group exhibitions at among others: KÖNIG GALERIE, Berlin, Germany (2023); Poush, Auberville, France (2023); BLANKgallery, Shanghai, China (2023); Pernod Ricard Foundation, Paris, France (2022); Vallois Gallery, Paris, France (2022); Sisley, Paris, France (2022); Fonds de Dotation Weiss, Paris, France (2022); Paris-B Gallery, Paris, France (2022); Double Séjour, Clichy, France (2021).
Between 2022 and 2023 she joined the Societé Générale Art Collection and her first institutional collection at FRAC Auvergne (France) followed by an exhibition.
