Kunstraum Heilig Geist am UNESCO-Welterbe Zollverein is opening with a solo show by painter Robert Janitz, renowned for his abstract, gestural compositions.His works are characterized by expressive brushstrokes, layered surfaces, and a fascinating palette of colors. Janitz’s paintings engage in a dynamic dialogue with the former church’s interior, emphasizing the interplay between art and architecture. HOW I LEARNED TO LOVE THE A is curated by Ulrich Wilmes, one of Germany's most distinguished curators and a native of Essen. As the former chief curator of the Haus der Kunst in Munich, Wilmes brings profound expertise in staging contemporary art in architecturally significant spaces.

Robert Janitz (b. 1962 in Alsfeld, Germany) lives and works in Mexico City, Mexico. He studied Ethnology, Comparative Religion, Indology, and Art History at the Philipps University in Marburg, Germany.

Robert Janitz is known for his large abstract paintings for which he uses oil in combination with wax and flour on a monochrome background.
