NORBERT BISKY
IM FREIEN

KUNSTVEREIN FREUNDE AKTUELLER KUNST, ZWICKAU, GERMANY
4 JULY – 29 SEPTEMBER 2023

Under the title IM FREIEN, Norbert Bisky is showing a group of new works on canvas and paper that were created in an associative engagement with the complete works of Max Pechstein (*1881 in Zwickau). IM FREIEN alludes to an essential part of the artistic self-image of the "Brücke" members. It is precisely their creative and particularly productive summer stays at the Moritzburg ponds that are the occasion and subject of his Pechstein group of works, even though naked bodies had already played a role in Bisky's earlier works.

The exhibition is supplemented by works by Bisky from recent years, in which references to Expressionist painting become clear. Although Max Pechstein had to live through dark times, two world wars, personal tragedies and ostracism as a degenerate artist, large parts of his work are characterised by transfiguration and escapism. In his paintings on Pechstein, Bisky takes up the use of colour, light and the depiction of water and bodies in motion in nature, "im Freien".
