JOHANNES WOHNSEIFER
LOST MOMENTS

NEUER KUNSTVEREIN WUPPERTAL, WUPPERTAL, GERMANY
19 AUGUST – 30 SEPTEMBER 2023

In his solo exhibition "Lost Moments" at the Neuer Kunstverein Wuppertal, Johannes Wohnseifer responds to the collection of Martin Pycior, which was assembled over a period of 25 years and in continuous accompaniment of the artistic biography. For the first time, it will be possible to present Wohnseifer's editions and multiples almost in their entirety and to combine them with selected unique works also from the Pycior collection.
In addition, the works from the collection will be supplemented in close collaboration between collector and artist with both existing and new works created especially for the exhibition. Through this connection, a continuation of individual works develops, an expansion and additional level of commentary that is integrated into the exhibition of the collection.

The character of this exhibition touches on focal points of Johannes Wohnseifer's artistic practice such as the handling of time, the construction of memory and history and the preoccupation with collections and archives. These fundamentals are implemented particularly in painting and sculpture, but also in works on paper and photography as well as artist's books. The cross-media approach is an important component of the artist's open working method, which combines conceptual methodology with an independent artistic signature.
