BERNAR VENET
BEYOND CONCEPT AND MATTER

PHOENIX CENTER, BEIJING, CHINA
28 SEPTEMBER 2024 – 28 FEBRUARY 2025

The exhibition BEYOND CONCEPT AND MATTER by Bernar Venet at the Phoenix Center in Beijing honors the remarkable career of French conceptual artist Bernar Venet, featuring nearly 180 works spanning over 60 years. Running from September 28, 2024, to February 28, 2025, this comprehensive showcase includes notable CorTen steel sculptures and introduces a new public art installation titled "Convergence: 52.5 Arc × 14," commemorating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France. The exhibition is organized by Phoenix TV and the Phoenix Center, with curatorial direction from Jonas Stampe and Xiao Ge, and is supported by the Central Academy of Fine Arts, positioning it as a significant cultural initiative within the China-France Cultural and Tourism Year.
Venet was actively involved in the exhibition setup and performed a live art piece at the opening. His diverse oeuvre encompasses various mediums, including paintings, sculptures, performance art, and interactive installations, reflecting a profound investigation of materials and concepts. Rooted in both tangible and abstract elements, Venet’s work engages in transcultural dialogue, challenging the distinctions between artistic forms. This exhibition not only highlights his large-scale steel sculptures but also creates a stimulating artistic environment.
